Chad Gilbert, the founder and guitarist of the pop-punk band New Found Glory, has died at the age of 45. The band members announced the musician’s death on social media on September 20, Rolling Stone reports.
New Found Glory’s statement
According to the band’s statement, Chad Everett Gilbert died in his sleep on the morning of September 20. His wife and mother were by his side; the musician was also surrounded by friends and family.
The members of New Found Glory said they were shocked by how quickly he passed away but were grateful that his death was peaceful. They called Gilbert a legendary musician and noted that he considered his role as a husband and father to be his greatest achievement.

Battle with cancer
In March, Gilbert said that he was battling brain cancer. He had previously battled cancer in 2021.
The band’s statement said that Gilbert’s guitar playing, songwriting, humor and perseverance shaped New Found Glory for nearly three decades. His colleagues also recalled the band’s more than a dozen albums, worldwide tours and the musician’s influence on the group’s work.
