Estonia’s 2028 Song and Dance Celebration to be held under the motto “Olemise viis”
In Estonia, the 2028 Song and Dance Celebration will be held under the motto Olemise viis, which can be translated as “Way of Being” or “Melody of Being.” Starting September 15, ensembles can register to take part in the 14th Youth Song and Dance Celebration, the 29th Song Celebration and the 22nd Dance Celebration.
Two celebrations will be combined for the first time
As ERR News reports, in 2028 the traditions of the youth and general Song and Dance Celebrations will be combined into a single event for the first time in history. According to Margus Toomla, a board member of the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration Foundation, the program will run from June 30 to July 9.
The first week will be dedicated to the Dance Celebration and the Folk Music Celebration, while the second will feature the participants’ procession and the Song Celebration. Toomla noted that the expanded program should give more people an opportunity to attend Dance Celebration performances or Song Celebration concerts. The Folk Music Celebration will take place at the more spacious venue of the Estonian Open Air Museum.

Song Celebration program
Riivo Jõgi, the artistic director of the Song Celebration, said that the motto Olemise viis unites the song, dance and folk music celebrations into a single concept. According to him, combining the youth and general celebrations created a thematic axis of the past, present and future.
The first day will feature a concert with music that resonated with Estonia’s residents in different decades. The audience will be able to sing along with the choir for a significant part of the concert. The second day will be devoted to adult singers, while children and young people will perform under the arch of the Song Festival Grounds on the third day.
