Nolan’s “The Odyssey” surpasses 10 million admissions in South Korea
Christopher Nolan’s film “The Odyssey” has surpassed 10 million cinema admissions in South Korea. The film reached this milestone on September 6, the 33rd day after its August 5 theatrical release, The Korea Herald reports, citing distributor Universal Pictures.
The second release of the year
“The Odyssey” became the second film of 2026 to record more than 10 million cinema admissions in the country. The first film of the year to achieve this result was director Jang Hang-jun’s “The King's Warden.”
For foreign films, this is the tenth time the milestone has been surpassed in South Korea and the first in four years. “The Odyssey” also became Nolan’s second work to achieve this result after 2014’s “Interstellar.” Overall, including Korean and foreign films, it is the 35th film to cross the 10 million admissions mark in the country.

Since its premiere day, the film has led the Korean box office every day. It reached 1 million admissions on its fourth day, 5 million on its 13th day, and 8 million on its 24th day. Its pace in reaching 8 million was the fastest among all 2026 releases.
The film adapts Homer’s ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey.” It was filmed entirely with IMAX film cameras and has a running time of 172 minutes. As of September 5, more than 1.1 million people in South Korea had watched the film in IMAX. This exceeded the approximately 929,000 IMAX admissions for “Avatar: The Way of Water” and set a new record in the country.
