Polyakova explained why she supports Galkin and Pugachova
Ukrainian singer Olya Polyakova explained why she has a positive attitude toward Russian artists Maxim Galkin and Alla Pugacheva. She stated that she judges people not by their nationality but by their actions, and believes that the couple chose to leave Russia because they disagreed with the regime and support Ukraine.
The singer explained that she does not consider a person’s nationality to be the main criterion for evaluating their actions. According to her, what matters more is how a person behaves and what decisions they make. Polyakova also mentioned Pugachova and Galkin’s life in Russia. She emphasized that the couple had successful careers, popularity, and wealth there, but left the country after the full-scale invasion began. “I don’t divide people into good or bad nationalities. I judge them by their actions. Alla Pugacheva and Galkin had everything in Russia. But one day they packed up and left their home and everything they owned so as not to be associated with that regime,” the artist said.
According to Polyakova, she believes that Galkin and Pugachova support Ukraine as much as they can. “They support Ukraine as best they can. And we won’t earn any more support from the world with our ‘gate’ scandal. They gave up everything just to sleep peacefully and have a clear conscience,” the singer stated.
Polyakova drew a parallel between Russians and Ukrainians
During the conversation, Polyakova also drew a parallel between Russians who oppose the war and Ukrainians who may be involved in corruption. She questioned the approach of judging a person primarily by their citizenship or nationality. “Is a person who gave up everything in Russia and is helping Ukraine—but is Russian by nationality—worse than a corrupt official who stole millions and is wearing a vyshyvanka? That’s nonsense,” Polyakova said.
The singer added that there are also Ukrainians who have been helping the country since the start of the full-scale war. At the same time, she said, there are also those who were involved in corruption and subsequently fled abroad. “We have many people who have been helping since day one, despite that scandal, and there are many Ukrainians who stole and fled,” she stated.
Galkin and Pugachova After the Start of the Full-Scale War
After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, Maxim Galkin and Alla Pugacheva left Russia and settled abroad. Galkin has publicly spoken out against Russian aggression and has repeatedly expressed his support for Ukraine. Because of his stance, he faced pressure from the Russian authorities, and in 2022, he was added to Russia’s registry of “foreign agents.”
Alla Pugacheva has also publicly opposed the war and spoken critically of Russian policy. It was precisely their stance that Polyakova cited as one of the reasons why she continues to view the artists favorably, despite their Russian origins. At the same time, the singer emphasized that what matters to her are a person’s specific actions, not their nationality.
