Director Alex Gibney unveils trailer for Elon Musk documentary — Rolling Stone
Director Alex Gibney has unveiled the first trailer for Musk, a documentary about entrepreneur Elon Musk. The film will consist of two parts with a total running time of four hours and will be released in theaters in October, Rolling Stone reports.
Musk did not take part in filming
In the trailer, Gibney says that he chose Musk as the subject of his next film because of his controversial nature, but it later became clear that the entrepreneur would not take part in the project. The two-minute video outlines topics that the documentary’s creators associate with Musk.
In particular, the trailer addresses promises to colonize Mars, Musk’s statements about his role in founding Tesla, his political stance, described as Dark MAGA, and the entrepreneur’s personal life. Musician David Byrne wrote a separate song for the film; the publication notes that it meets the criteria for consideration for an Oscar.

Assessment after the festival screening
After the festival debut of Musk, Rolling Stone published a review of the film. The article’s author, David Fear, described the work as a portrait of Musk and his influence on modern society, assembled from well-known episodes and controversies surrounding the entrepreneur.
In its synopsis, Bleecker Street called the film a sharp look beyond the legend of Musk, whom it described as the richest and least controlled person on the planet. According to Gibney, as quoted by him at a press conference, Musk’s story is not yet over.
