Sam Neill was posthumously awarded a Logie; Sam Peng received a Gold Logie
Australian actor Sam Neill was posthumously awarded a Logie Award for Best Lead Actor in a Drama for the legal thriller *The Twelve: Cape Rock Killer*. The ceremony’s top prize—the Gold Logie for the most popular television personality—went to comedian and host Sam Peng, according to The Guardian World.
Neill, who passed away in July, played Brett Colby on the series *The Twelve* for three seasons. The award was accepted on his behalf by the actor’s close friend, Heather Mitchell. According to her, this honor reflects Neill’s connection with the audience, and his work on the series meant a great deal to him.
Pang is a contestant on the quiz show *Have You Been Paying Attention?* and hosts the programs *The Front Bar* and *Sam Pang Tonight*. During his acceptance speech, he joked that those whose names he forgot to mention in his acknowledgments should “think about how much they’ve done.” The award was presented to Pang by Magda Shubanski, who recently announced she is in remission following cancer treatment.

The ceremony’s host, Robert Irwin, received his first-ever Logie—the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter—for his work on *I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!*. Brooke Sutchwell won Best Actress in a Drama for the series *Dear Life*, while Simon Baker won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for *The Narrow Road to the Deep North*. Claudia Karvan received the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for the series *Homebodies*.
ABC won eight awards. Its miniseries *Goolagong* was named Best Miniseries or TV Movie, and Lila McGuire received the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent. RFDS was named Best Drama Series. Actress Deborah Mailman was inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame—she became the first Indigenous Australian to be inducted into the Hall.
