Documentary about blind football team screened in China — ECNS
At the 13th Silk Road International Film Festival in Xi’an, China, the documentary Voy Boys about Xinjiang’s first blind football team was screened, ECNS reports.
The team’s story
The film was made by Tianshan Film Studio. It tells the story of visually impaired students from a special school in Shache County, Kashgar. The documentary’s protagonists form a blind football team and take part in national competitions.
After the screening, members of the Voy Boys team met with the festival audience.

Focus of the documentary
Directors Li Zhiwei and Liu Xiaoran said they focused on the boys’ everyday emotions and perseverance. According to them, the filmmakers did not seek to portray the protagonists as heroic figures.
The documentary was shortlisted for the Golden Silk Road Award at the film festival.
