Turkmenistan Culture Days held in Seoul — Korea Herald
In Seoul, South Korea, the Embassy of Turkmenistan held Turkmenistan Culture Days at the Prugio Art Hall concert venue. The event took place the day after the first Korea–Central Asia summit and combined music, dance and crafts programs.
Traditional music and dance
Gargy-tuyduk, a wind instrument with a long reed, and the dutar, a two-stringed instrument of Turkmen music, were played on stage. The performances also featured the doira frame drum, other percussion instruments, the bowed gijak and an accordion. The musicians performed in traditional attire, including white telpek fur hats and red traditional clothing.
Singer Bahar Annayeva performed folk songs. The program also included Lee Seung-chul’s ballad “Did You Forget?” and the Korean folk song “Arirang,” accompanied by clarinet and dutar.

The dance performances referenced Turkmenistan’s equestrian and craft traditions. Men in red costumes performed jumps and movements with whip-like props, recalling the country’s equestrian culture and Akhal-Teke horses. In another performance, participants unfurled a large red carpet as a reference to Turkmen carpet weaving.
Cultural contacts
Turkmenistan’s ambassador to Korea, Begench Durdiyev, said that cultural exchanges should deepen mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries. According to The Korea Herald, cultural and people-to-people contacts were among the areas discussed at the first Korea–Central Asia summit, alongside trade, investment and other areas of regional cooperation.
Two days before the cultural event, the sides concluded 13 agreements and memorandums of understanding at the Korea–Turkmenistan summit. They covered infrastructure, transport, investment protection, customs, water resources, forestry and climate cooperation.
