In Wales, thousands of fans turned out to pay tribute to Bonnie Tyler
Thousands of Bonnie Tyler fans lined the streets of Mumbles, near Swansea in Wales, to pay their respects to the singer as her casket was transported to her former home. According to The Guardian, the procession passed along Newton Road, and the casket was draped with the Welsh flag and accompanied by a portrait of the artist.
People threw flowers onto the hearse, applauded, and sang one of Tyler’s most famous hits—“Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Those in attendance included not only local residents: Michael Bown and his partner Alan Hawkins traveled from Derby, and some people, according to the publication, even came from Austria.
Bonnie Tyler, whose real name was Gaynor Sullivan, died on July 8 in Portugal at the age of 75. Mumbles was one of the places where she lived: the singer divided her time between the Algarve in Portugal and a large Victorian house in Blackpool, near Mumbles, overlooking Swansea Bay.

A memorial service for Tyler is scheduled for August 17 at St. Mary’s Church in Swansea Minster. Only invited guests will be admitted inside, but the service will be broadcast on a large screen in the adjacent St. David’s Square. After the ceremony, the singer’s casket will make a final pass through her hometown of Skiven, followed by a private gathering for family and friends.
Bonnie Tyler gained worldwide fame with songs such as “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” “I Need a Hero,” “It’s a Heartache,” and “If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man).” In 2013, she represented the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö with the song “Believe in Me” and placed 19th.
