Local power outages have begun in Ukraine due to the heat
Power outages were reported in some areas of Kyiv on June 22. The cause was a power shortage, which was exacerbated by the heat and widespread use of air conditioners.
This was stated by Stanislav Ignatyev, chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association.
According to him, air conditioners place an additional load of up to 2 GW on the power grid. The situation is further complicated by the shutdown of two nuclear power plant units for maintenance and limited capacity to import electricity from Europe.
In Kyiv, power outages were reported in the Dniprovskyi, Darnytskyi, Holosiivskyi, and parts of the Obolonskyi districts. DTEK reported that the outages in parts of the capital were caused by an accident and that power is expected to be restored by 4:00 p.m.
