US market to watch Costco report and Trump-Xi meeting — CNBC
On the US stock market this week, investors will watch Costco’s quarterly earnings, the Meta Connect conference and the expected meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Washington. CNBC reports on the key events of the week.
Costco earnings report
Costco Wholesale is set to release its quarterly results after trading closes on Thursday, September 24. The market expects earnings per share of $6.53 and revenue of $94.8 billion. Investors will focus on profitability, growth in club membership and member retention rates.
Bank of America analysts also suggest that Costco may announce a special dividend over the next several quarters. In their estimate, it could amount to approximately $22 per share. The company last paid a special dividend in January 2024.

Meta Connect and the US-China meeting
Meta’s annual Meta Connect developer conference will begin on Wednesday, September 23. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at 7:00 p.m. US Eastern Time. The company is expected to discuss the development of the Muse Spark family of models, the Muse agentic AI application, developer tools and Ray-Ban smart glasses, and may also unveil a new mixed-reality device.
The Trump-Xi meeting is expected to take place on Thursday in Washington. For investors, the key question will be a possible extension of the tariff truce, which expires on November 10. Other likely topics of the talks include the US trade deficit with China, purchases of Boeing aircraft, artificial intelligence, the war in Iran and Taiwan.
Data on initial jobless claims and new home sales in the US are also due to be released on Thursday. No macroeconomic publications are scheduled for Monday and Friday.
