New York Fashion Week showcased bold seasonal trends — Asharq Al-Awsat
At New York Fashion Week in the United States, designers presented spring/summer 2027 collections, moving away from the pastel shades and floral motifs traditionally associated with spring in favor of rich colors, contrasts and dynamic elements in clothing. Asharq Al-Awsat reports on the key trends from the shows.
Color and a festive mood
Some brands used the shows to celebrate anniversaries. Rachel Comey turned 25, Michael Kors and Carolina Herrera marked 45 years each, and Coach marked 85 years. On the Coach runway, models appeared in party hats, sparkling dresses with large colorful bow trains, and accessories styled as wrapped gifts.
Tory Burch paired embellished cardigans with bright skirts, thin boa-like scarves, and a turquoise coat with a matching bag. Her show took place on a circular covered runway surrounding an open garden with fountains. Michael Kors presented its collection in the garden of the Museum of Modern Art, where an orange trench coat and sunshine-yellow footwear stood out against black-and-white looks.
Thom Browne created a show inspired by “A Bug's Life”: a large garden was set up indoors, and models appeared in layered suits with green crystals hanging from them. Some looks referenced ladybugs and butterflies, with large colorful frame skirts and jackets resembling cocoons.

Shades of blue and an emphasis on the waist
Blue became one of the recurring colors in the collections. Ralph Lauren used denim, satin and lace dresses, suits, as well as blue fur and feather collars. Tommy Hilfiger presented classic and oversized blazers and striped rugby shirts in basic colors, including navy blue. Tory Burch used turquoise and dark blue shades, while Henry Zankov presented teal in his first collection as creative director of Diane von Furstenberg.
The Diane von Furstenberg line returned to New York Fashion Week after a ten-year break. Zankov used animal prints in the brand's signature wrap designs, and also presented semi-sheer blouses and dresses and loose-fitting suits. Cobalt blue also appeared in the collections of Proenza Schouler and Sergio Hudson.
Sashes and fringe
Designers emphasized the waistline with sashes, scarves and wide belts. Daniella Kallmeyer paired a blue button-up top and trousers with a sash, while in another look she used a white sash embellished with beads over a black suit. Ralph Lauren complemented looks with fringed scarves.
Fringe became another striking element: Jonathan Simkhai's asymmetric dresses moved as the models walked, at Rachel Comey shimmering fringe peeked out from beneath a black look, and Monse presented jackets covered in fringe.
