Japan: SB Energy to sell up to $500 mln in shares to investors as part of US IPO

In Japan, data center developer SB Energy, backed by SoftBank Group, plans to sell up to $500 million in new shares to Japanese investors as part of an initial public offering in the United States. This was reported by Channel NewsAsia, citing a company filing.

Funds for infrastructure development

SB Energy will issue new shares for Japanese investors. The company plans to use the funds raised for general operating expenses related to the development of data centers, power generation facilities and other infrastructure.

The size of the planned US IPO was not disclosed in the filing. Reuters previously reported that SoftBank may seek a valuation of $50 billion for SB Energy.

Nvidia investment and OpenAI warrants

In a prospectus for investors released in early September, SB Energy said that chipmaker Nvidia had committed to invest $1.5 billion in a private placement at the IPO price. OpenAI also received warrants with an estimated value of $5.5 billion.

According to Reuters, investor interest in companies related to artificial intelligence contributed to a wave of public offerings this year. Japanese investors purchased $2.2 billion in SpaceX shares during its IPO.
