Samsung invests $1 billion in AI infrastructure company Helix — CNBC

Samsung Electronics, together with five affiliated companies, is investing a total of $1 billion in Helix Digital Infrastructure, a company developing infrastructure for artificial intelligence. As CNBC reports, Samsung Electronics will invest $500 million, while the remaining amount will be provided by Samsung C&T, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Life Insurance, and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance.

Infrastructure for AI

Global investment firm KKR launched Helix Digital Infrastructure in June. The company is developing infrastructure needed to meet growing demand for AI: hyperscale data centers, power generation facilities, power transmission and distribution systems, and fiber-optic networks.

Helix is led by former Amazon Web Services CEO Adam Selipsky. The company's founding investors are KKR, Nvidia, Kuwait Investment Authority, and U.S. energy company Vistra.

Cooperation among group companies

Samsung said the investment is intended to accelerate the global deployment of AI data centers together with Helix and deepen cooperation among the companies involved. The deal also allows the group to leverage the capabilities of its companies in semiconductor and cooling-system manufacturing, data-center construction, and battery production.

According to KKR, more than $10 billion in financing has already been committed to Helix. KKR also said it has invested more than $75 billion in digital infrastructure and energy overall, including about $9 billion in Korea since 2009.
