Michelin 24H Series race moved from Dubai to South Africa — Daily Maverick
The first African race of the Michelin 24H Series will take place at Kyalami Circuit in Midrand, South Africa, from January 8 to 10, 2027. Dutch organizer Creventic has cancelled the traditional season-opening round in Dubai and moved it to South Africa due to uncertainty in the Persian Gulf region, which is affecting logistics, transportation and operating costs, Daily Maverick reports.
Round moved from Dubai
Creventic commercial events manager Jesse de Jong said the decision was difficult for the company: the Dubai 24 Hours was the first official race it organized more than 20 years ago and laid the foundation for the future 24H Series. According to him, because teams and equipment must be delivered from different countries, organizers could no longer confidently guarantee safe transportation.
After searching for alternative venues, Kyalami became the priority option. The choice was influenced by the circuit's upgraded infrastructure, 40 secure pit garages, guest areas and teams' interest in competing at the historic track.

Return of international racing
The Michelin 24H Series is an endurance racing championship developed by Creventic and approved by the International Automobile Federation. Cars from several classes compete simultaneously in one race, including GT3 cars from Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, as well as one-make Porsche 911 GT3 Cup and Ferrari Challenge cars.
The series usually consists of about five rounds at European circuits, including 12-hour and 24-hour races. Both professional drivers and FIA-licensed amateurs, known as gentleman drivers, are eligible to compete.
Holding the race would mark the return of high-level international endurance racing to Kyalami for the first time since the final Kyalami 9 Hour race in 2023. Creventic still has to appoint an event promoter and announce ticket sales.
