Australia clinch ODI series against Zimbabwe early — Dawn
Australia’s cricket team defeated the hosts by 84 runs in Harare, Zimbabwe, in the second ODI match and secured the series early. Australia scored 356 runs for six wickets in 50 overs, their highest ODI total against Zimbabwe. In reply, the hosts scored 272 runs in 48 overs and three deliveries.
As Dawn reports, Zimbabwe chose to field after winning the toss, but the decision did not work out. After two matches, Australia lead the three-match ODI series 2:0.
Travis Head’s century
Australian opener Travis Head scored 112 runs from 84 deliveries, hitting 15 fours and three sixes. He needed 75 deliveries to reach his century, a record for an Australian cricketer in ODIs against Zimbabwe. In the first match of the series in Harare, Head scored only four runs.
Head was named player of the match. After the game, he said that several days without training had allowed the team to approach the match fresh, and that Australia had tried to play aggressively.

Cooper Connolly scored 78 runs from 69 deliveries, hitting three sixes and three fours. Captain Mitchell Marsh added 53 runs. At the end of the Australian innings, 19-year-old Oliver Peake scored 41 runs from 18 deliveries, including three sixes in Brad Evans’s final over, which cost 24 runs.
Zimbabwe’s response
The top scorer for Zimbabwe was 40-year-old captain Sikandar Raza with 45 runs. He hit five fours before being caught by Matt Renshaw at long-off off Connolly’s bowling. Brad Evans took three wickets for Zimbabwe, conceding 86 runs.
For Australia, Connolly, Renshaw, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa took two wickets each. The final match of the series at Harare Sports Club will take place on Sunday. Australia will then travel to South Africa, where they will play three ODIs and three Test matches from September 24.
