Babar Azam scores 12 runs in first-class cricket match — Dawn
Pakistan Test captain Babar Azam scored 12 runs in a third-round President’s Trophy Grade-I match in Abbottabad. It was his first appearance in first-class cricket in nearly seven years. As Dawn reports, Azam faced 20 balls and hit two boundaries before being dismissed off Arshad Iqbal’s bowling.
Arshad Iqbal’s five wickets
Oil and Gas Development Company Limited, for whom Azam played, scored 217 runs in 63.1 overs in response to Khan Research Laboratories’ 398 runs. KRL pace bowler Arshad Iqbal returned figures of five wickets for 55 runs in 16 overs, four of which were maidens. This was his third five-wicket haul in first-class cricket; he has 97 wickets in 26 matches in the format overall.
Mohammad Hammad Khan remained unbeaten on 56 runs, OGDCL captain Rohail Nazir scored 48, and Danish Aziz made 40. Ahmed Bashir and Iftikhar Ahmed took two wickets each. OGDCL, trailing by 181 runs, were made to follow on. At the end of the day, Waqar Ahmed on 17 and Ali Zaryab on 12 had taken the team to 34 without loss of wickets; the deficit stood at 147 runs.

In Islamabad, Abdullah Fazal scored an unbeaten 309 runs off 339 balls in State Bank of Pakistan’s match against Ghani Glass. He hit 29 boundaries and 11 sixes, and formed an opening partnership of 417 runs with Hasan Raza, who scored 222 runs. State Bank of Pakistan declared their innings at 638 for five wickets and held a lead of 316 runs.
In Peshawar, left-arm spinner Khalid Usman took six wickets for 64 runs in Markhor IT Solutions’ match against SNGPL. Saud Shakeel recorded his 24th first-class century, scoring 100 runs off 147 balls. Kingsmen Academy declared their innings at 568 for eight wickets in the match against Pakistan Television.
