David Warner to play for Kathmandu Gorkhas in Nepal
Australian cricketer David Warner will join Kathmandu Gorkhas for the third season of the Nepal Premier League in Nepal. The tournament starts on 26 October, with matches to be held at the TU International Cricket Ground in Kathmandu.
The signing was reported by Kathmandu Post. Kathmandu Gorkhas announced Warner as the team’s third foreign player after four days of posting teasers for fans. The club has not yet said how many tournament matches the Australian will play.

In a video released by Kathmandu Gorkhas, Warner said he was happy to join the team. He expressed hope that the Nepal Premier League would bring people joy and give them a reason to unite after a difficult period for the country. The cricketer also noted that he had heard about Nepalese fans’ passion for cricket and wanted to experience the atmosphere of matches in the Himalayas.
Former Nepal national team captain Paras Khadka welcomed Warner in a post shared with the club’s announcement. Kathmandu Gorkhas executive director Anubhav Swar Sirohiya told Kathmandu Post that negotiations to invite the player had lasted for several months.

Warner’s career
The 39-year-old Warner ended his international career after Australia’s defeat to India in the Super 8 round of the 2024 T20 World Cup. He remains Australia’s highest run-scorer in T20I matches, with 3,277 runs in 110 games.
Warner played 112 Test matches for Australia and scored 8,786 runs, while in 161 ODI matches he scored 6,932 runs. With the national team, he won the ODI World Cups in 2015 and 2023, the 2021 T20 World Cup, and the 2021–2023 World Test Championship.
In the Indian Premier League, Warner played for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals. In 2016, he led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the title as captain. In 184 IPL matches, the cricketer scored 6,565 runs and won the Orange Cap three times as the season’s highest run-scorer.
