Soccer player Stepanenko played his farewell match and retired from professional soccer

The Ukrainian Premier League match between Shakhtar and Kolos marked the final game of midfielder Taras Stepanenko’s professional career. The player gave an emotional farewell to the game, and his teammates formed a symbolic guard of honor for him. Going forward, Stepanenko will work on the coaching staff of the Ukrainian national team.

Stepanenko started for Kolos and was substituted in the 60th minute. As he left the field, Taras kissed the turf and even broke down in tears. Both teams formed a guard of honor for Stepanenko.

The Zaporizhzhia-based Metalurh product spent most of his career playing for Shakhtar, but he played his final match for Kolos. Taras spent 15 seasons with Shakhtar and won 25 trophies. He played 439 matches and scored 30 goals.

On March 1, Stepanenko returned to the Ukrainian league from Turkey’s Eyupspor. He signed a six-month contract with Kovalevka’s Kolos. The veteran has already played five matches for the “Farmers.”
