How to treat facial pigmentation and rosacea: a cosmetologist explains Nordlys IPL therapy at LEO BEAUTY CLINIC
In aesthetic device-based cosmetology, IPL therapy is one of the most effective methods for treating pigmentation, post-acne marks, rosacea, and visible vascular conditions, as well as for skin photorejuvenation.
How does the session work and how should you prepare for it? How can you prolong the effect of renewed smoothness and healthy radiance after the procedure?
Read expert advice from Oleksandra Kilimichenko, cosmetologist at LEO BEAUTY CLINIC in Warsaw.
The international LBC network has assembled the most advanced and extensive range of high-performance cosmetic devices in Poland, enabling a full spectrum of professional skincare treatments.

How the technology works
Nordlys IPL therapy is a modern phototherapy technique based on Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), which selectively targets melanin and oxyhaemoglobin. The Nordlys system delivers high precision, effectiveness, and safety, while its integrated cooling system ensures maximum comfort during the procedure.
Who the procedure is suitable for
The treatment is indicated for pigmentation, rosacea and vascular manifestations, post-acne, photoageing, dull skin tone, and reduced firmness. The procedure is generally recommended from the age of 25.
Primary treatment areas include the face, neck, décolletage, and hands. The optimal period for IPL therapy is autumn, winter, and spring, when there is no active sun exposure, with mandatory daily SPF use.
How to prepare properly
No special preparation is required; however, prior to IPL therapy it is advisable to prepare the skin with hydrating treatments or biorevitalisation procedures (such as Jalupro or Plenhyage).
This improves skin quality and hydration and allows for a more even and predictable result. Tanning should be avoided for 2–3 weeks before the procedure, and aggressive acids and retinoids should be discontinued several days in advance.
How the procedure and recovery process work
The procedure is generally well tolerated. Clients may feel warmth or brief light pulses. Downtime is minimal: temporary redness or mild swelling may occur and typically subsides within 1–2 days; pigmentation spots may temporarily darken. A session lasts approximately 20–40 minutes.
Treatment course and results
A course consists of 3–5 sessions with intervals of 3–4 weeks. Results include lightening of pigmentation, reduction of vascular visibility, a more even skin tone, and overall improvement in skin quality.
How to prolong the results
To maintain the results, daily SPF use is essential, along with hydrating and antioxidant skincare. IPL therapy can be effectively combined with professional skincare treatments, biorevitalisation, LED therapy, and maintenance procedures.
Long-lasting results are only achievable through a comprehensive approach, where device-based treatments are supported by proper skincare and a healthy lifestyle.
