Yaroslava Mahuchikh has been crowned European champion for the third time in a row

Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh won gold in the high jump at the 2026 European Championships in Birmingham.

Mahuchikh cleared the bar at 1.97 m, outperforming all her competitors. Iryna Herashchenko finished fifth with a jump of 1.92 m.

For Maguchikh, this is her third consecutive gold medal at the European Championships held in an outdoor stadium. She previously won in Munich in 2022 and in Rome in 2024.

Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, fell just short of the final at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. In a tense semifinal, the Ukrainian lost in three sets to former world No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland.

As a reminder, on August 11, Elina Svitolina defeated Russia’s Katerina Aleksandrova in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Toronto and advanced to the semifinals. The Ukrainian lost the first set but staged a comeback to win the match in three sets—3–6, 6–0, 6–3.

Prior to that, Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, secured a victory in the round of 16 at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament being held in Toronto.
