Latvian Patriks Gailums won the bronze medal at the European Championships in javelin throw
Latvian javelin thrower Patriks Gailums won the bronze medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. On his third attempt, the athlete recorded a throw of 82.97 meters, which secured him third place, according to LSM English.
Gailums edged out Poland’s David Wegner, who finished fourth, by just one centimeter. Germany’s Julian Weber was crowned European champion, throwing the javelin 90.40 meters on his final attempt.
Another German athlete, Nick Tumm, won the silver medal with a throw of 83.76 meters. Tumm had been leading the competition until the final attempt, but finished second after Weber’s throw.

For Gailums, this award marked a return to top form following an injury he sustained at the Paris Olympics. It took the athlete a year and a half of rehabilitation to recover.
Latvian track and field athletes had not won any medals at the European Championships since 2016, when Zigismunds Sirmais won the men’s javelin throw.
