Manchester United and Bayern claim big Champions League wins

Manchester United thrashed Azerbaijan’s Sabah 4-0 in Manchester in a Champions League match. As Dawn reports, Michael Carrick’s team marked its return to the tournament with a convincing victory at Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha opened the scoring in the 27th minute after a pass from Patrick Dorgu, netting his first goal of the season. Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko scored late in the first half, with Sesko beating goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov after a pass from Bryan Mbeumo. Lisandro Martinez scored the fourth goal in the second half.

Sesko told TNT Sports that the victory gave the team confidence ahead of the Manchester derby scheduled for Sunday. Late in the match, Carrick brought on youngsters Harry Amass and Shea Lacey.

Bayern’s victory

Bayern beat Norway’s Bodo/Glimt 5-0. Harry Kane scored in his eighth consecutive Champions League match, heading in a Michael Olise free-kick. Olise scored twice and was also involved in the goals by Kane and Alphonso Davies.

Jamal Musiala opened the scoring early in the second half. It was his first goal since he collapsed on the pitch during pre-season due to a neurological condition. After the match, the player told DAZN that he was happy about the goal and aims to gradually return to his previous level of play.

Como’s debut and other results

Italy’s Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas, made its Champions League debut with a 4-1 win over RB Leipzig. Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas, Assane Diao and Maximo Perrone scored for the hosts, while Andrija Maksimovic scored for the German club.

France’s Lens beat Slavia Prague 3-2, twice coming from behind against a team reduced to 10 men. Fenerbahce drew 1-1 with Roma, while PSV and Shakhtar Donetsk also finished 1-1. After the match in Istanbul, Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal resigned after a bottle was thrown at him from the stands, but club president Aziz Yildirim said he had not accepted the resignation.
