Marc Marquez wins San Marino Grand Prix sprint

In San Marino, Ducati rider Marc Marquez won the San Marino Grand Prix sprint, finishing ahead of Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi. MotoGP championship leader Jorge Martin finished third. Thanks to the victory, Marquez reduced his deficit to Martin in the overall standings to 14 points, TimesLIVE reports.

Marquez's successful start

Bezzecchi took pole position, setting a lap record in qualifying and beating Marquez. However, at the start of the 13-lap sprint, the Ducati rider got away better, took the lead at the first corner and retained it until the finish.

At the beginning of the race, Bezzecchi matched Marquez's pace, but the reigning champion later began setting the fastest laps and by the middle of the distance had opened a gap of more than a second over his rival. Towards the end, the Italian reduced the gap to the leader, but Marquez responded with a race lap record on the penultimate lap.

Di Giannantonio finished fourth, while Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez was fifth. Pedro Acosta, Raul Fernandez, Fermin Aldeguer and Luca Marini finished next. Brad Binder took 14th place.
