In Beijing, China, Elise Mertens and Diana Shnaider reached the quarterfinals of the WTA doubles tournament. The sixth-seeded pair defeated Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls 6:1, 6:3 in the round of 16, Interia Sport reports.

In the second set, Mihalikova and Nicholls took a 3:2 lead. However, Mertens and Shnaider then won four games in a row and closed out the match on Shnaider's serve — 6:3.

Match against Perez and Schuurs
In the quarterfinals, Mertens and Shnaider will face Ellen Perez and Demi Schuurs. Their match is scheduled for Thursday after 07:00 Polish time.
For Mertens, this will be another appearance before the Beijing singles quarterfinal. On Friday, the Belgian is due to play Iga Swiatek for a place in the semifinals.
