Nigeria draw with China at the Women’s U-20 World Cup
Nigeria’s women’s under-20 national team drew 0-0 with China in the second Group F match of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Sosnowiec, Poland. After two rounds, the Nigerians have one point and will face New Caledonia in their final group-stage match.
Match moments
The match took place at Arena Sosnowiec. Nigeria’s first dangerous moment in the 17th minute was created by Janet Akekoromowei. The team later had several more opportunities: Kafayat Mafisere won a corner in the 33rd minute, while Akekoromowei came close to scoring in the 38th minute and in first-half stoppage time.
The Chinese team also had attempts before the break, through Huang Jiaxin, Zhou Xinyi and Song Lijuan. Nigeria goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma and the team’s defence kept a clean sheet, Premium Times Nigeria reports.

Cancelled penalty and tournament standings
In the second half, the Nigerians created several chances: Precious Oscar came close to scoring in the 54th minute, Mafisere had attempts in the 56th and 60th minutes, and Queen Joseph had an opportunity in the 58th minute. In the 74th minute, the referee awarded a penalty to Nigeria, but the decision was overturned after a VAR review.
After this match, Spain lead Group F with six points, China have four, Nigeria have one, and New Caledonia have yet to earn a point. The Nigerians can finish second in the group or reach the round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed teams. Nigeria’s match against New Caledonia is scheduled for September 13 in Lodz, with kick-off at 14:00 Nigerian time.
