South Africa’s Orlando Pirates defeated Mauritius’ La Cure Waves 3:1 in the return leg of the first qualifying round of the CAF Champions League in Soweto, South Africa. The team advanced to the second qualifying round after a 0:0 draw in the first match in Mauritius.
Three goals before halftime
The visitors opened the scoring in the sixth minute. Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine made a poor clearance, which was blocked by Jean Ami, after which the La Cure Waves player scored into an empty net.
Orlando Pirates equalized two minutes later: Kabelo Kgositsile scored after exchanging passes with Simphiwe Masilela on the left flank. In the 25th minute, Kamogelo Sebelebele put the hosts ahead, and in the 37th, Yanela Mbutuma headed in a corner delivery from Tapelo Mokobodi.
