Pinto says Infantino has no place in the future of football — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, Football Leaks founder Rui Pinto said that FIFA President Gianni Infantino should not play a role in the future of football. In a post on X, Pinto reiterated allegations made public in 2018 regarding Infantino's possible interference in the affairs of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Claims regarding club cases

According to MyJoyOnline, Pinto claims that in 2014, Infantino, who was then UEFA's general secretary, allegedly abused his authority, passed on confidential documents and influenced the handling of cases. According to Pinto, this may have helped Manchester City and PSG limit the consequences to fines and avoid an in-depth investigation that could potentially have ended in exclusion from the Champions League.

Der Spiegel previously reported that the clubs may have inflated the value of sponsorship deals in order to comply with financial fair play rules. PSG stated at the time that it had acted in accordance with laws and the rules of sports organizations, and also denied these allegations.

UEFA's position and the situation around FIFA

After the first allegations emerged, UEFA stated that the general secretary had the authority to assist the body conducting the investigation, including through discussions, meetings, the exchange of documents and the search for solutions. Infantino himself said that his work involves conversations and the exchange of documents, drafts and ideas on many issues.

The Premier League's investigation into Manchester City began after the Football Leaks disclosures through Der Spiegel in 2018 and a separate UEFA review. According to the source, the club was found guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules over nine years. Manchester City denies the breaches and is due to file an appeal by October 2.

Infantino is also under pressure following the postponement of plans to sell stakes in the World Cup. UEFA accused him of criminal mismanagement in connection with the FIFA Forward Enterprise scheme, and the Swiss Football Association withdrew its support for the FIFA president. Infantino intends to run for a fourth term in March 2027.
