Reuters: ISU revokes Kamila Valieva’s neutral status
Singapore’s Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, reported that the International Skating Union (ISU) had revoked the neutral athlete status of Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva. Reuters received this information from a source familiar with the situation.
Letter about the decision
According to the source, 20-year-old Valieva received a letter notifying her that her neutral status had been revoked. The ISU declined to comment on this information.
Valieva found herself at the center of an international scandal during the 2022 Olympics, when she was 15. A sample taken two months before the Games contained the banned substance trimetazidine, which is used to prevent angina attacks.

Four-year disqualification
In 2024, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) imposed a four-year disqualification on the figure skater. The sanction was counted from the date of the positive trimetazidine test submitted at the Russian Championships in December 2021.
The test result became known after Valieva helped the Russian team win gold in the team event at the 2022 Olympics. That result was later annulled, and the United States team took first place.
In February, Valieva returned to the ice at the Russian Jumping Championships, but according to the source, she still had no right to compete at the Milan-Cortina Olympics this year.
