Simeone said that Atlético will not sell Álvarez despite interest from Barcelona
Atlético Madrid has no plans to let striker Julián Álvarez leave during the current transfer window, despite interest from Barcelona. Head coach Diego Simeone made this statement ahead of a friendly match against Manchester City in Seoul, according to Al Jazeera English.
Simeone noted that the club has already made a decision regarding the Argentine player. According to him, Atlético is pleased to have such a player and intends to help Álvarez develop and continue to perform at a high level.
Last month, the Madrid club filed a complaint with FIFA over alleged improper contact by Barcelona with the 26-year-old forward. Álvarez has also been linked with a possible move to reigning English champions Arsenal. In June, Atlético rejected an offer from Real Madrid worth 150 million euros.

Atlético’s CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, told the club’s media that the team had rejected a €100 million offer and would not agree to sell the player even for €150 million or €200 million. He called Álvarez the Madrid team’s center forward and emphasized that the club wants to keep him.
The forward is set to rejoin the team in two days after taking time off following Argentina’s loss to Spain in the World Cup final. During the tournament, Álvarez said that, in his opinion, a transfer would be the best solution for everyone, but he did not name a specific club he would like to join. Since joining from Manchester City two years ago, he has scored 49 goals for Atlético.
Atlético will kick off the new La Liga season on August 19 with a home match against Málaga, which has returned to the top division. Last season, the Madrid side finished in fourth place, 25 points behind champion Barcelona.
