Coach Chris Fagan to decide his future after AFL Grand Final — ABC News Australia
In Australia, Brisbane Lions head coach Chris Fagan will decide his future after the Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final, in which his team will face the Fremantle Dockers at the MCG stadium in Melbourne. ABC News reports.
The 65-year-old Fagan said he is focused only on the upcoming match. According to him, over the past two or three years, after the end of the season, he has discussed with the club’s chief executive and president when the right time would come to step down. The current season is his 10th as Brisbane’s coach.
Chance for a third consecutive championship
If the Lions defeat Fremantle, Fagan will become the seventh coach in VFL/AFL history to win the championship title three years in a row. He has already led Brisbane to two league victories and taken the team to four consecutive Grand Finals.

The coach noted that he still does not know whether he will continue working after this season. His future was previously discussed by former Brisbane coach Leigh Matthews, who led the club to three consecutive titles in 2001–2003, and former team captain Jonathan Brown.
A first title for Fremantle
For the Fremantle Dockers, the match will be an opportunity to win the club’s first championship title. The team’s head coach, Justin Longmuir, said that regardless of the final’s outcome, he aims to lay the foundations for a sustained successful period for the Dockers — like the one Fagan created at Brisbane.
