Dubai to host ILT20 auction with 24 contracts for UAE players — The National

The DP World ILT20 cricket league auction will take place in Dubai, UAE, on Thursday, with 24 contracts available for UAE players. Each of the six franchises must include four local cricketers in their squads. They must include at least one player who has represented the national team and one athlete under the age of 23.

The minimum individual salary for a league participant is $10,000. As The National reports, West Indies batter Andre Fletcher received the largest sum, $260,000, at the first ILT20 auction last year. The highest bid among UAE players went to Junaid Siddique: Sharjah Warriorz paid $170,000 for him.

Contract contenders

Muhammad Waseem is considered one of the leading contenders for a lucrative contract. He was named the UAE’s best player in each of the first four ILT20 seasons. He ranks third for the number of sixes in international T20 cricket. MI Emirates will have the right to match any bid for the player.

Ansh Tandon scored 237 runs at the development tournament and helped Gulf Giants win the title. Lukman Faisal, playing for Sharjah Warriorz, scored 95 not out from 38 balls, became the tournament leader in sixes and shared first place in runs scored. Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter KS Bharat, who played seven Test matches for India and spent five seasons in the IPL, is also available for ILT20.

Potential conflict with the national team

Some leading UAE players may miss the ILT20 season due to qualifying for the Cricket World Cup in the one-day format. The ICC has not yet approved the Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off, but teams have been told that the tournament may take place from December 1 to 20. Eight teams are expected to play in it, including the four lowest-ranked participants in Cricket World Cup League Two; the UAE are currently in last place.

The availability of all-rounder Ali Naseer, who was called up to the UAE national team for the US tour, remains in question. At the same time, fast bowler Waleed Mohammad took the most wickets at the development tournament and was the most economical among bowlers who bowled a significant number of overs. Sagar Kalyan was named the best player of the development tournament, while Junaid Shamsu hit 15 sixes from 113 balls and received the player-of-the-match award three times.
