In the UK, Mudryk injures ankle at Tottenham

In the United Kingdom, Ukrainian footballer Mykhailo Mudryk injured his ankle during training at English club Tottenham, British media report. According to Asharq Al-Awsat, he is likely to miss matches until the end of the international break.

Injury after debut

The 25-year-old winger joined Tottenham on a season-long loan from Chelsea on the final day of the transfer window. He made his debut last weekend, coming on as a substitute in the away match against Nottingham Forest, which ended 0:0.

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi, quoted by Reuters, called Mudryk's injury a silly injury and expressed hope for his swift return. The coach noted that the footballer had a good 15 minutes in Nottingham, but after a lengthy absence he needs time to return to his usual match rhythm.

Career and suspension

Mudryk previously worked with De Zerbi at Shakhtar Donetsk and moved to Chelsea in January 2023. The publication reports that the player's career was suspended after an adverse analytical finding in a doping test for meldonium in 2024.

According to Asharq Al-Awsat, the Football Association imposed a four-year ban on Mudryk. The footballer appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and the term of his suspension was later reduced following an agreement between the Football Association and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Before moving to Tottenham, Mudryk made 73 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 10 goals and providing 11 assists. After three rounds of the English Premier League, Tottenham had one point and stood in 17th place, while the team was due to play Everton on Saturday.
