Ukraine won its first European 7-a-side soccer championship
The Ukrainian 7-a-side soccer team won the European championship title for the first time in history. In the final match of the continental championship, the “blue-and-yellows” defeated the tournament hosts—the Italian team.
The Ukrainian team went undefeated throughout the entire tournament. In the group stage, the team routed Romania and Greece by the same score of 8–0 and also defeated Italy 5–3.
In the semifinals, the Ukrainians confidently defeated Austria 11–3 and advanced to the final, where they faced Italy once again.
The final ended with a 3–1 victory for Ukraine. Overall, the national team scored 35 goals in five matches at the European Championship, conceding only seven.
The 7-a-side European Football Championship is held every two years under the auspices of the European Mini-Football Federation (EMF). Twenty-four national teams participated in the final stage of Euro 2026.
7-a-side soccer is not part of the UEFA or FIFA competition systems but is a separate form of futsal with its own international tournaments. Ukraine has traditionally been among Europe’s leading teams in this format.
