Alibaba open-sources AI model for nearly 150 conditions — Anadolu Agency
Reports from Türkiye say that Alibaba has open-sourced the Damo Radar artificial intelligence model, which can detect nearly 150 diseases and pathological conditions in the abdominal cavity based on computed tomography results. According to Anadolu Agency, citing the South China Morning Post, the model was developed by Alibaba’s research division, Damo Academy.
Analysis of CT scans
Damo Radar is a vision-language model that analyzes contrast-enhanced CT scans of 18 abdominal organs. It can detect a wide range of diseases and abnormalities, including malignant tumors.
In an evaluation of nearly 40,000 real examinations, the model achieved an average AUC score of 0.913 across 146 clinical findings. The maximum value of this metric is 1.0.

Testing results
The development team called Damo Radar the world’s first universal expert-level medical imaging model and said it could later be adapted for other types of medical images.
In a study involving 26 radiologists from several hospitals, the model outperformed 23 participants on average. The use of Damo Radar also helped radiologists reduce the number of missed diagnoses by 10% and cut diagnosis time by more than 30%.
