Amazon launches personalized shopping notifications in Alexa

Amazon has launched the Update Me When feature in its Alexa for Shopping AI assistant, which can send personalized notifications when new or relevant events emerge that may interest a user in making a purchase. TechCrunch reports.

What events can be tracked

With the new feature, users can set up notifications about, among other things, the launch of a new line from a favorite brand, the release of a new season of a series, the announcement of an artist's concert tour, or the release of a new book by an author. Alexa can also provide information about new products from technology companies and other relevant events.

At the initial stage, users will have to configure such notifications themselves. The feature is part of Amazon's approach under which Alexa not only answers questions about products but can also notify users in advance about events that could potentially encourage a person to make a purchase.

Other Alexa for Shopping capabilities

Amazon is also developing other artificial intelligence-based shopping tools. In particular, the available price-tracking feature allows users to ask Alexa to notify them when an item's price reaches a certain level or a discount reaches a specified percentage. At the user's request, the assistant can automatically purchase the item once these conditions are met.

In addition, Alexa is used to select personalized offers and create shopping guides, build a cart based on previous purchases, track price history, and compare products. The assistant also displays AI reviews in search results and on product pages, recognizes handwritten lists, and adds the items specified in them to the cart.
