Apple may unveil a home smart hub on October 13 — The Verge

Apple may unveil a smart hub for the home on October 13 — a new device category for the company. The announcement of a new HomePod mini and an updated Apple TV is also expected alongside it, The Verge reports, citing Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.

Display and two installation options

According to Gurman, the centerpiece of the presentation is expected to be a device with a 6-inch display. It will be possible to place it on a countertop or mount it on a wall. The smart hub is said to be about as thick as an iPhone, while the screen bezels will resemble those of older iPad models.

The desktop version will reportedly feature a round metal base with speakers and microphones, as well as a metal bracket that will hold the display and allow it to be tilted. Apple also plans to sell a wall-mounted version with a thinner base for the speakers and microphones, according to Bloomberg.

Features based on Siri AI

All three devices are expected to showcase Siri AI, Apple’s updated voice assistant with artificial intelligence features, according to the source. The smart hub will reportedly be powered via USB-C and will not have a built-in battery. It may be released in Apple’s standard gray aluminum finish.

According to Gurman, the device’s operating system will be geared toward iPad-like apps. In particular, the Messages app may have a two-pane interface. The smart hub will also reportedly support controlling other smart devices at home, video calls, music playback, photo displays, and calls via an intercom.
