Airbnb CEO Chesky urges people to ‘ride the wave’ of AI

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference that people should “ride the wave” of artificial intelligence rather than let it consume them. He said this in an interview with CNBC that aired on Thursday.

AI depends on people’s decisions

As CNBC reports, Chesky believes that artificial intelligence is neither inherently good nor bad. According to him, the technology’s potential impact depends on exactly how people use it.

The Airbnb chief noted that he is not certain about a positive outcome for AI development, but considers it possible. He compared the technology to nuclear energy, which can either light up a city or destroy it.

‘Cognitive revolution’

Chesky described his view of artificial intelligence development as a “cognitive revolution,” in which the technology will help people become smarter alongside it. He stressed that people need to be reminded of their value to society.

According to Chesky, AI is a wave that people can “ride” instead of being swallowed by the water.

Artificial intelligence became one of the main topics of the annual Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference for company executives, which began on Tuesday. Scheduled speakers include Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, and SpaceX CFO Bret Johnsen.
