Google launches AI-powered Playground game creation platform in the US — Engadget

Google has launched Playground, an experimental artificial intelligence-based platform in the United States for creating games without the need to write code or draw graphics. Users can describe the desired game in a text prompt, choose a 2D or 3D format and, for certain genres, select single-player or multiplayer mode.

Games from text prompts

As Engadget reports, the Playground interface resembles those of AI chatbots. Users can create a prompt from scratch, rework starter prompts or use guided assistance. After creating the first version of a game, its mechanics, physics and graphics can be adjusted with subsequent commands.

For example, while developing a platformer, a user can ask to give a character a double jump so that it can reach higher platforms. A game can be kept private, shared with friends via a link, or published in the Playground Explore gallery. In-game leaderboards will be available for published games.

Future Unity Spark integration

Google also plans to add integration with Unity Spark. According to the company, Spark is intended to provide access to professional mechanics, high-quality 3D graphics capabilities and the flexibility of the Unity runtime environment.

Playground is already available on the official website for users in the United States aged 18 and over. Access to the platform will be distributed depending on the Google One subscription. As the service has experimental status, the company expects further changes to it.
