Huawei unveils Ruiying Z10 with 50MP sensor for Mate 90 — The Verge

Huawei has unveiled the Ruiying Z10 camera module for the collector’s edition of the Mate 90 Pro Max and the Mate 90 RS. As The Verge writes, the accessory has its own 50-megapixel, 1-inch-type RYYB sensor, larger than any sensor in the smartphones themselves.

24–240mm zoom lens

The Ruiying Z10 is equipped with a zoom lens with a focal-length range of 24–240mm and a variable f/2.0–f/4.5 aperture. Unlike additional teleconverters with a fixed focal length, the new module has a variable focal length.

The accessory uses the smartphone for power, image processing, and software functions. At the same time, the module’s own sensor and optics expand photography capabilities compared with attaching a standard additional lens.

Compatibility and dimensions

According to Huawei, the Ruiying Z10 is compatible only with the collector’s edition of the Mate 90 Pro Max and the Mate 90 RS. These are the only two Mate 90 series models with a threaded mount around the camera block, allowing the module to be installed without an intermediate case.

The Ruiying Z10 weighs 346 grams. The Verge notes that the module is large even by the standards of smartphone teleconverters, but weighs less than most mirrorless cameras.

Smartphone specifications

The Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS have a main 50-megapixel camera with a variable f/1.4–f/4.0 aperture, a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with fourfold zoom, and a 40-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. Other claimed specifications include a 6.9-inch OLED display with peak brightness of up to 12,000 nits, a 6,800mAh battery, and a Kirin 9050 Pro processor. The base Mate 90 and Mate 90 Pro have smaller dimensions and simplified specifications.
