The number of virus infections on mobile devices in Russia has increased by 70%

The number of virus infections on mobile devices in Russia has increased by 70%

In the first half of 2026, the number of mobile devices in Russia infected with malware increased by 70% compared to the same period last year.

The main threat to users remains a banking Trojan called Mamont

While last year it accounted for 10 to 12% of all detected infections, this year that figure has already reached 15%.

Once it infiltrates a device, the virus gains access to SMS messages and steals the owner’s payment details and confidential information.

According to F6, a developer of anti-cybercrime technologies, active campaigns using Mamont have been ongoing since 2023.

Currently, about 1.5% of all Android devices in Russia remain compromised by this virus, which amounts to approximately 1.5 million devices.

Experts attribute the rapid increase in cybercriminal activity to users being forced to download apps from third-party sources.

Due to limited access to official app stores, installing APK files has become a common practice for many, a fact that cybercriminals actively exploit by disguising Trojans as app updates or financial services.

Cybercriminals are impersonating Ukrenergo and spreading viruses via email

Scammers are sending dangerous viruses disguised as emails from the National Bank of Ukraine
