The Grinex cryptocurrency exchange reported a cyberattack by "foreign intelligence agencies" and a loss of over $13 million

Grinex, a Russian-founded cryptocurrency exchange where the A7A5 cryptocurrency—used to circumvent sanctions—is traded, has reported a large-scale cyberattack and the loss of over one billion rubles in funds belonging to Russian users.

The company claims that the incident bears signs of involvement by foreign intelligence services.

“Digital traces and the nature of the attack indicate an unprecedented level of resources and technologies available exclusively to entities of hostile states. According to preliminary data, the attack was coordinated with the aim of causing direct harm to Russia’s financial sovereignty,” the exchange said in a statement.

Grinex also announced the temporary suspension of the platform’s operations and the filing of a report with law enforcement agencies.

Previously, the crypto exchange had already fallen under SDN sanctions as part of programs to counter cyber threats.

It is worth noting that the blocking of Telegram in CIS countries, technical glitches, and regulatory pressure are increasingly causing service instability. For millions of users, Telegram has long been more than just a messenger—it has become the primary channel of communication, a business tool, and a news source. However, reliance on a single platform amid geopolitical turbulence creates systemic risks.
