Meta to launch AI tools for creating games in Horizon — The Verge

Meta has announced two artificial intelligence-based tools for creating games on the Horizon social platform: the Horizon Create mobile app and the browser-based Horizon Studio. Both services are planned to open in early access mode, and those interested can already join the waiting list, The Verge reports.

Creating games from text prompts

Horizon Create is designed for use on a smartphone, while Horizon Studio is expected to offer more detailed settings in a browser. According to Meta, the tools will make it possible to turn ideas into finished 2D and 3D mobile games using AI prompts.

The company says creators will be able to add progression systems, balanced difficulty, artistic style and multiplayer mode to games, as well as manually refine every element. Meta hopes to attract more developers to Horizon this way; the platform was initially a virtual reality app and later shifted its focus to mobile devices.

Games will be promoted on Facebook and Instagram

Meta plans to recommend games published through Horizon Create and Horizon Studio on Facebook and Instagram. They will also be available to launch on these social networks: a user will be able to tap a game video clip on Instagram and join a multiplayer session without downloading a separate app or going to another resource.

According to Meta, games that are stable, engaging for users, culturally relevant and encourage players to return will receive additional reach. Meta's announcement comes amid Roblox's development of AI tools for creating games, including a feature for generating games from prompts in its mobile app. Roblox has 123 million daily active users, while Horizon had 300,000 monthly users at the beginning of 2022, according to The Verge.
