OpenAI announces cooperation with Samsung on next-generation chips
In South Korea, OpenAI announced deeper cooperation with Samsung Electronics in semiconductors and enterprise artificial intelligence services. As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, OpenAI Korea general manager Harrison Kim said at a press conference in Seoul that the companies are jointly working on the manufacturing and research of next-generation chips being developed by OpenAI.

Kim called this area one in which OpenAI has made the greatest progress in its cooperation with Samsung Electronics. He provided no details about the chips' specifications, production volumes, or timeline. Samsung Electronics said in a statement that it could not confirm information related to customers.
In June, OpenAI introduced its first dedicated artificial intelligence chip, developed together with Broadcom. The Jalapeno chip is designed for AI inference — processing data to generate responses in applications such as ChatGPT. At the time, OpenAI said Taiwan's TSMC would manufacture these chips.

Last year, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix signed letters of intent to supply memory chips for OpenAI's Stargate data center project. According to Kim, demand for memory chips will grow due to the need for more powerful components for faster and more complex computing.
Corporate use of ChatGPT
Kim also described Samsung Electronics as one of the world's largest examples of ChatGPT deployment. According to him, the company's employees in South Korea and abroad use the service in research and development, marketing, and sales.
OpenAI said the number of ChatGPT Enterprise users at South Korean companies and institutions at the end of August was approximately 28 times higher than a year earlier. The company did not disclose the absolute number of users. According to its data, businesses are increasingly using AI not only for individual tasks but also in legal, financial, operational, marketing, and sales departments.
