UAE Embassy in the US highlights AIDO Cell AI model for simulating cellular responses to drugs
The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Washington has highlighted the development of the AIDO Cell artificial intelligence system, which can model a human cell and its responses to medicinal drugs. The National reports.
Virtual cell model
California-based biotechnology company GenBio AI first announced AIDO Cell in late August. Researchers from the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in Abu Dhabi, Harvard and Stanhope contributed to work on the system.
GenBio AI explained that the model imitates changes in a cell in response to experiments and reproduces how these changes are reflected in different experimental measurements. The company calls AIDO Cell a “virtual cell” and notes that it is based on a so-called world model.

GenBio AI's plans
According to the developers' description, world models make predictions based on a unified state of the system. This is intended to allow users to intervene in the modeling process and assess how such actions could affect observations in the real world.
In a video, GenBio AI notes that biologists mainly rely on laboratory experiments to study cell behavior, while AIDO Cell makes it possible to model biological processes in a software environment for many such experiments. The company is also working on creating a virtual cell bank, which in the future is intended to allow researchers to download customized cells and conduct open experiments with them.
GenBio AI has offices in Abu Dhabi and Paris and is seeking partnerships that could accelerate the creation of this bank. Company co-founder and Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence President Eric Xing said that modeling biology at different levels could make it predictable and programmable.
