Atoire startup raises $9.5 million to sell goods without luxury markup

Fashion startup Atoire has announced that it raised $9.5 million in a seed round. Investors include a16z Speedrun, Night Capital, and Jeremy Liew of Lightspeed Ventures, TechCrunch reports.

The platform sells bags and clothing made from the same materials and at the same factories as products from luxury brands. For example, an Italian leather bag on Atoire costs several hundred dollars, while brands such as Prada or Louis Vuitton may sell a similar item for thousands of dollars.

Factory collaboration model

Atoire co-founder Redouane Ramdani said that most of the platform's products are not copies of well-known designs. According to him, the company offers products with the same materials and level of craftsmanship, made at the same facilities. Ramdani also stressed that he does not consider Atoire's approach to be fast fashion.

Ramdani estimates that the best luxury factories are increasingly handling product design and development themselves. This allows them to adapt designs more quickly and produce smaller batches rather than relying solely on large orders from a few brands. The company says that using artificial intelligence helps factories assess potential demand before launching large production runs.

Use of artificial intelligence

Atoire uses AI to analyze fashion trends, test color options for products, and forecast consumer demand. The company's tools are also intended to predict potential material shortages so that factories can build inventory in advance.

An AI agent operates on the startup's website and can select an outfit based on a customer's preferences or source of inspiration. Over time, the system takes shoppers' habits into account when recommending future purchases. Ramdani said that Atoire is already recording growth in referral traffic from ChatGPT and Claude.

The company ended last year with approximately $5 million in sales and expects its annualized sales run rate to exceed $55 million this year. Atoire works with more than 40 factories in different countries. The new investment is planned to be directed toward logistics, development of AI tools and manufacturing, as well as launching its own product line and collaborating with content creators and influencers.
