Thibault Sottiaux discusses the development of ChatGPT Work — TechCrunch

OpenAI aims to make agent capabilities initially created for technical specialists available to a broader audience through the ChatGPT Work platform for knowledge workers. The company’s head of core products, Thibault Sottiaux, said in an interview with TechCrunch that the service should combine ease of use with the ability to autonomously perform complex tasks.

According to Sottiaux, his area of responsibility includes APIs, agent infrastructure, enterprise products, all ChatGPT products, including ChatGPT Work and classic ChatGPT, as well as Codex. He also confirmed that he reports to Greg Brockman.

Simple access to agents

Sottiaux explained that OpenAI wants to adapt coding agent capabilities for a wider range of users. The company seeks to make them safe and convenient to use on mobile devices and on the web. ChatGPT Work was launched as part of the Plus subscription plan, which costs $20 per month.

In Sottiaux’s view, the interface of such products should be minimalist and natural for people. He cited ChatGPT Voice as an example, noting that voice interaction makes it possible to converse with the service in a familiar format. According to him, technology should adapt to users rather than require them to learn special rules for working with an application.

Sottiaux said that OpenAI sees significant adoption of the new format of working with AI. According to him, the company announced that it had reached 20 million users. He described the product as simple but powerful.

Models, prices and safety

OpenAI’s head of products called building such services a process of discovery: the company expands model capabilities, identifies the tasks they handle best, gathers user feedback, and refines its products. As an example, he cited GPT 5.6, which, according to him, improved work with large document collections, the preparation of presentations and reports, and deep research.

Speaking about costs, Sottiaux said that OpenAI is working to improve model efficiency. He also mentioned the company’s announced permanent 80% price reduction with Luna and said that OpenAI aims over time to provide more utility for the same amount. Regarding AI access to email and iMessage, he emphasized the importance of safe and aligned models and the company’s investments in safety systems.
