A data breach at one of Steam's logistics partners may have exposed customer data in Europe
Valve has warned of a potential data breach involving the personal information of European Steam device buyers due to a security breach at its logistics partner, CEVA Logistics. According to The Verge, customers’ names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses may have been compromised.
According to Valve, the incident at CEVA Logistics occurred between July 29 and August 1. The company believes that European customers’ data was likely compromised because the carrier retains delivery-related information for up to 90 days after an order is placed.

The breach occurred a few weeks after pre-orders for the new Steam Machine and Steam Controller began. Valve advised customers to be on the lookout for fake emails, text messages, or phone calls purporting to be from Steam, Valve, or a delivery service.
Scammers may mention the customer’s address, ask them to confirm delivery, pay a small customs fee or redelivery charge, or log in somewhere to confirm the order, Valve noted. The company also stated that CEVA does not have access to payment information, passwords, Steam Guard codes, or other account information. Valve emphasized that it handles account-related issues exclusively through help.steampowered.com and does not contact customers via email, Steam Chat, or Discord regarding these matters.
