Chisinau Airport has launched a free shuttle service
Chisinau International Airport has launched a free shuttle service for passengers arriving in Moldova by train who plan to fly out of Chisinau. The bus picks up passengers at Revaca Station and takes them directly to the terminal. The service is currently operating on a trial basis and may be particularly convenient for Ukrainians using Chisinau as a transit point.
Chisinau Airport has decided to simplify the transfer process for passengers arriving in Moldova by rail. This primarily applies to people traveling by train from Ukraine, arriving in Chisinau, and continuing their journey by plane from there.
Previously, after the train arrived, passengers had to make their own way from the train station to the airport. This meant another trip through the city, transportation costs, and extra time on the road. This can be particularly inconvenient if there is little time between the train’s arrival and the flight’s departure.
Now the airport is testing a different option. Passengers are being offered the chance to get off the train at Revaca Station, from where a free bus will take them to the terminal. “For many of those arriving by train from Ukraine, Chisinau is a stopover from which they continue their journey to other destinations. That’s why we’re testing a solution: a free shuttle from the airport, running from Revaca Station directly to the terminal,” airport officials explained.
Where to get off the train
Passengers who wish to use the shuttle should get off at Revaca Station. It is located not far from Chisinau, so the trip from the central train station won’t take long. According to available information, the train covers this route in about 7–10 minutes. Upon arrival at the station, passengers can transfer to a bus provided by the airport.
The bus takes passengers directly to the terminal. The trip from Revaca to the airport takes about five minutes. This means passengers don’t need to look for a taxi or public transportation in Chisinau. The train and flight portions of the journey are effectively combined into a single route.
When the free shuttle bus runs
The shuttle currently operates on a fixed schedule. Every day at 10:20 a.m., passengers can board the bus at Revaca Station to travel to the airport.
Therefore, those planning to use the service should check their train schedule and arrival time at the station in advance. It’s also important to factor in the time needed to go through airport security and other pre-departure procedures.
The new route is designed specifically for passengers arriving by train who need to continue their journey by plane. For Ukrainians, this can be a particularly convenient option, as Chisinau is often used as a transit airport for onward travel to other countries.
How long will the project last?
For now, the free shuttle is not a permanent service. The airport has launched it as a one-month pilot project. During this time, experts will monitor how many passengers use the bus and whether it truly helps make the trip more convenient. After the trial period ends, the results will be analyzed.
Based on the results of this analysis, the airport will decide whether to make the shuttle a permanent service. If the service proves successful, this format may be extended. For now, passengers should treat this bus as a trial service. In the event of changes to the schedule or terms of use, the airport will provide separate notification.
Why This Is Convenient for Ukrainians
For Ukrainians traveling by train to Moldova, Chisinau may not be the final destination. The city is often used as a stopover from which to fly to another country. On such a trip, it’s important to time things right. After the train arrives, passengers need to get to the airport, check in, go through security, and make it to their flight on time. An additional trip through the city can create unnecessary risks, especially if there are traffic jams on the roads.
The new shuttle service is designed to simplify this part of the journey. Passengers get off the train at Revats, transfer to a free bus, and arrive at the terminal in about five minutes. For people with luggage, this is also more convenient than having to find their own transportation after getting off the train. And the main advantage of the service is that it doesn’t require any additional payment. At the same time, passengers should keep a close eye on the time. The mere fact that a shuttle is available does not mean you can arrive at the last minute before your flight. You still need to allow separate time for check-in, security screening, and boarding.
If the one-month trial shows that passengers truly need this service, the free shuttle route may remain in operation going forward. For Ukrainians, this could become another convenient way to get from the train to the plane when traveling through Moldova. This was reported by the airport’s press service (AIC).
Chisinau has called on the authorities of unrecognized Transnistria not to reduce water releases from the Dubossary Reservoir. Moldova warns that this could affect the stability of the capital’s water supply. Meanwhile, Tiraspol accuses Chisinau and Kyiv of creating a new crisis, but Moldovan authorities deny this.
