Belgium is preparing to transfer three more upgraded F-16s to Ukraine

Belgium plans to approve the transfer of three F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in the near future. The country’s Defense Minister, Theo Franken, made this statement in an interview with Ukrinform.

According to him, the aircraft have been upgraded with French electronic warfare technology. Therefore, official permission from France is required to transfer them to Kyiv.

Franken noted that once approval is granted, Belgium will be able to quickly begin preparing the logistics and transferring the aircraft to Ukraine.

The minister also dismissed concerns regarding the maintenance of Ukrainian F-16s by the Belgian company Sabena Engineering. Currently, the company services about four fighter jets per month, and this number could increase to six in the future.

In addition, Belgium continues to supply Ukraine with ammunition for the F-16s. Following the recent transfer of 50,000 rounds, the country is already considering a new request from Ukraine.

Spain, Belgium, and Poland have already begun supplying Ukraine with 20-mm ammunition. This ammunition is needed, in particular, for the F-16 fighter jets that Ukraine is using against Russian jet drones.

Ukraine will receive three F-16 fighter jets from Belgium by the end of 2026. The transfer of the aircraft is planned to be carried out under an expedited procedure.
